God’s Presence

God’s Presence

How is God “with me” and “in me”?

God’s Response

The LORD himself will choose the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel —“God is with us.” Isaiah 7:14

The child within her has been conceived by the Holy Spirit. And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins. Matthew 1:20-21

God came to be “with us” when he sent his Son as a baby to live in a human body, to live a perfect life, and to suffer and die in order to save us from sin. His resurrection conquered death and sin, after which he sent his Holy Spirit to remain with you and in you. The God of the universe devised this plan from the beginning of time, knowing that you would need him to save you and live in you. During this season, celebrate the birth of Jesus with the knowledge that God’s plan, set in motion by the birth of a baby, was designed especially for you.

God’s Promise

He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world at large cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you do, because he lives with you now and later will be in you. John 14:17
