Contentment

Contentment

How can I keep a clear distinction between my needs and my wants?

God’s Response

If we have enough food and clothing, let us be content. 1 Timothy 6:8

First, help me never to tell a lie. Second, give me neither poverty nor riches! Give me just enough to satisfy my needs. Proverbs 30:8

Your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him! Matthew 6:8

You will never be content if you focus on your wants, because you will always want more. That is why the Lord promises to supply your needs, not your wants. The more you focus on what the Lord values, the more you will be able to distinguish your needs from your wants. If you constantly feel discontented, you may be focusing more on what you want than on what God wants for you.

God’s Promise

Let the LORD’s people show him reverence, for those who honor him will have all they need. Psalm 34:9
