Why is it so important to affirm others?

Let us aim for harmony in the church and try to build each other up. Romans 14:19

Encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing. . . . Think highly of them and give them your wholehearted love because of their work. And remember to live peaceably with each other. . . . Encourage those who are timid. Take tender care of those who are weak. 1 Thessalonians 5:11, 13-14

Every person has a God-given need to be affirmed. You can give the gift of affirmation through three actions: (1) Listen. Listening bestows dignity by putting another person at the center of your attention. (2) Encourage. Encouraging others is a powerful way to build up their confidence and motivate them for even better work. (3) Act. Following through on someone’s suggestion makes a strong statement about your respect for them. Who needs your affirmation today?

God’s Challenge

The whole law can be summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” But if instead of showing love among yourselves you are always biting and devouring one another, watch out! Beware of destroying one another. Galatians 5:14-15
