When You’re Not In Charge
When You’re Not in Charge
What if the leaders of my country leave something to be desired? How do I respond?
God’s Response
Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God. So anyone who rebels against authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and they will be punished. Romans 13:1-2
We must obey God rather than any human authority. Acts 5:29
We should be responsible citizens as well as responsible Christians. Every government is in power because God allows it to be. Therefore, you should work hard to obey the laws of your land and make your country better. The Bible is also clear that you should never violate God’s moral standards. This means that you should never allow the government to force you to disobey God. You should not disobey the government for personal reasons, but only for moral reasons when God’s laws are violated. Civil disobedience comes with a price, so if you are compelled to disobey, you must be courageous enough to accept the consequences and defend your faith in the Lord.
This Is Promising
If you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it. James 1:25
