Wanting God

Wanting God

Can I develop more of a desire for God?

God’s Response

If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask me, and I would give you living water. . . . Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again. But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life. John 4:10, 13-14

Jesus replied, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again.” John 6:35

Even if you could buy anything you wanted, that would not satisfy the deepest longings of your heart. If you won every award in your field of interest, your heart would still not be fulfilled. How can this be? God created you to have a relationship with him. Until you understand that and pursue him, your heart will ache. God did not create you to live in a sinful world separate from him, but in a perfect world side by side with him. As you get to know him, this becomes clear, and you will begin to long for eternal life with him in the perfect world (heaven). Develop a desire for God by drawing close to him in prayer and Bible reading. Notice his care for you throughout your day. You will sense his nearness—and that will make you desire him more.

This Is Promising

As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God. Psalm 42:1
