Dishonesty

Are there consequences for being dishonest? I see people every day who seem to get away with it.

God’s Response

There was a certain man named Ananias who, with his wife, Sapphira, sold some property. He brought part of the money to the apostles, claiming it was the full amount. With his wife’s consent, he kept the rest.Then Peter said, “Ananias, why have you let Satan fill your heart? . . . You weren’t lying to us but to God!” As soon as Ananias heard these words, he fell to the floor and died. Acts 5:1-5

The sin Ananias and Sapphira committed was lying to God and God’s people—trying to make themselves appear more generous than they really were. This act was judged severely because dishonesty, greed, and coveting what others have are so destructive to honest relationships. All lying is bad, but when people lie to God and other believers, they destroy their testimony. Your friends may not be getting caught now, but a habit of dishonesty will follow them throughout life and will eventually catch up with them.
