Restlessness

Sometimes I get restless. How can I rest in God?

God’s Response

Moses raised his hand and struck the rock twice with the staff. Numbers 20:11

I felt obliged to offer the burnt offering myself before you came. 1 Samuel 13:12

This very day you can see with your own eyes it isn’t true. For the LORD placed you at my mercy back there in the cave, and some of my men told me to kill you, but I spared you. For I said, “I will never harm him—he is the LORD’s anointed one.” 1 Samuel 24:9-10

Being restless can cause you to act impatiently in ways you will later regret. Moses was restless about the Israelites’ complaining and acted rashly by disobeying God. Saul also disobeyed God in his restlessness to go into battle. By contrast, though David had to wait a long time to be king after being anointed as a young man, he held out for God’s timing, even when it seemed that God had delivered Saul into his hands. When you feel restless in your time of waiting, thank God for where you are now and wait patiently to discover the reason as God’s plan unfolds before you.

God’s Promise

Pray about everything. . . . If you do this, you will experience God’s peace. Philippians 4:6-7
