Perspective
How do we lose perspective?
God’s Response
The people of Israel said to Moses, “Look, we are doomed! We are dead! We are ruined! Everyone who even comes close to the Tabernacle of the LORD dies. Are we all doomed to die?” Numbers 17:12-13
Martha was worrying over the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.” But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are so upset over all these details!” Luke 10:40-41
The perspective of the people of Israel was completely opposite to reality. Instead of seeing the Tabernacle as a place to worship God, they saw it as a place to stay away from because of God. What had happened? Their perspective on God changed because their daily choices had changed from doing things for God to doing things for themselves. Obeying God is life’s greatest accomplishment because it keeps us focused on what is really important and shows us that God supplies what we really need in great abundance. When we drift away from consistent obedience to God, we lose our eternal perspective.
God’s Promise
If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. Matthew 16:25 (
