How does God want me to obey him?

God’s Response

Obey me, and I will be your God, and you will be my people. Only do as I say, and all will be well! Jeremiah 7:23

Thank God! Once you were slaves of sin, but now you have obeyed with all your heart the new teaching God has given you. Romans 6:17

You must obey all the commands of the LORD your God, following his instructions in every detail. Deuteronomy 5:32

Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with scoffers. But they delight in doing everything the LORD wants; day and night they think about his law. Psalm 1:1-2

Obedience is defined as “being submissive to an authority.” We all obey an authority, be it our own rules, the rules of the world, or the ways of God. Ironically, obedience to God’s ways actually frees you to enjoy life as he originally created it, keeping you from becoming entangled or enslaved to the sinful things that distract or hurt you. It protects you from the evil that God knows is there, leads you on right paths where you will find blessing, and directs you into service that will please him.

God’s Promise

If you keep looking steadily into God’s perfect law—the law that sets you free—and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it. James 1:25
