Is laziness a sin?

I walked by the field of a lazy person. . . . I saw that it was overgrown . . . its walls were broken down. . . . I learned this lesson: A little extra sleep, a little more slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest—and poverty will pounce on you like a bandit. Proverbs 24:30-34

Never be lazy in your work, but serve the Lord enthusiastically. Romans 12:11

The desires of lazy people will be their ruin, for their hands refuse to work. They are always greedy for more, while the godly love to give! Proverbs 21:25-26

Laziness is considered one of the “seven deadly sins,” and it is the one most often overlooked. We often think of sin as doing something we should not do, but sin is also the failure to do what we should. Laziness could mean not dealing with your responsibilities, or not confronting someone because you are afraid of the consequences. A lazy person is self-centered and does not want to take time to help out. The spiritually lazy person may fail to notice the approach of temptation. Laziness can be transformed by purpose. Purpose requires courage; you must confront yourself or the enemy, and have the discipline to say no to what distracts you from your purpose.
