What does it mean to be holy?

God’s Response

We are writing to . . . you who have been called by God to be his own holy people. He made you holy by means of Christ Jesus, just as he did all Christians everywhere. 1 Corinthians 1:2

I plead with you to give your bodies to God. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will accept. Romans 12:1

I, the LORD, am holy, and I make you holy. Leviticus 21:8

There are two things you should know about holiness: (1) God doesn’t expect you to be completely holy or perfect in this life, but he wants you to do as well as you can; and (2) when you become a Christian, the Bible says you are set apart for a particular purpose. Remove yourself as much as possible from sinful influences that distract you from the task God has given you and work at becoming more holy each day. As you grow to be more like Jesus, your character will clearly show others that something good and different is happening in you. This will be attractive to many and they will want to know what is going on inside of you. Holy living is not so much in what you avoid, but in how you relate to a holy God.

God’s Promise

Christ will make your hearts strong, blameless, and holy when you stand before God our Father on that day when our Lord Jesus comes with all those who belong to him. 1 Thessalonians 3:13
