God’s Promises

God’s promises seem too impossible for me; how could they ever come true in my life?

God’s Response

Abraham bowed down to the ground, but he laughed to himself in disbelief. “How could I become a father at the age of one hundred?” he wondered. “Besides, Sarah is ninety; how could she have a baby?” . . . “Is anything too hard for the LORD? About a year from now, just as I told you, I will return, and Sarah will have a son.” . . . Then the LORD did exactly what he had promised. Sarah became pregnant, and she gave a son to Abraham in his old age. It all happened at the time God had said it would. Genesis 17:17; 18:14; 21:1-2

Maybe the promises of God look impossible in your life—you feel you’ve messed up, missed your opportunities, or have gotten too old. God asks you what he asked Abraham: “Is anything too hard for the Lord?” The great thing about God’s promises is that the burden is on God. It’s not your job to worry about how he will fulfill them, but to live faithfully and be open to his working in your life. He will lead you places you might never expect. Often it is our own skepticism that prevents us from stepping out in faith into one of God’s miracles.

God’s Promise

Now that you belong to Christ, you are the true children of Abraham. You are his heirs, and now all the promises God gave to him belong to you. Galatians 3:29
