Forgiveness

There must be some sins that are too great to be forgiven. Can any sin be forgiven?

God’s Response

God has purchased our freedom with his blood and has forgiven all our sins. Colossians 1:14

I assure you that any sin can be forgiven. Mark 3:28

He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. . . . He has not punished us for all our sins, nor does he deal with us as we deserve. For his unfailing love toward those who fear him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth. He has removed our rebellious acts as far away from us as the east is from the west. Psalm 103:3, 10-12

Forgiveness is not based on the magnitude of the sin, but on the magnitude of the forgiver’s love. No sin is too great for God’s complete and unconditional forgiveness. The Bible does, however, mention one unforgivable sin—blasphemy against the Holy Spirit (see Mark 3:28-29 and Matthew 12:31). Only those who reject his forgiveness are out of its reach.
