How does the Bible define fools and foolishness?

God’s Response

Only fools say in their hearts, “There is no God.” Psalm 14:1

Fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge. Only fools despise wisdom and discipline. Proverbs 1:7

Fools have no interest in understanding; they only want to air their own opinions. Proverbs 18:2

Anyone who hears my teaching and ignores it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will fall with a mighty crash. Matthew 7:26-27

The Bible describes a fool as a person who refuses to acknowledge God’s existence; makes no attempt to develop wisdom and self-discipline; enjoys making fun of that which is good and moral; speaks carelessly and thoughtlessly about others; and thinks he or she is always right. Let “April Fools” describe the day, and not you!

God’s Challenge

Those who bring trouble on their families inherit only the wind. The fool will be a servant to the wise. Proverbs 11:29
