Burdens
Burdens
What can I do when my job is too much to handle?
God’s Response
You’re going to wear yourself out—and the people, too. This job is too heavy a burden for you to handle all by yourself. . . . Find some capable, honest men who fear God and hate bribes. Appoint them as judges over groups of one thousand, one hundred, fifty, and ten. These men can serve the people, resolving all the ordinary cases. . . . They will help you carry the load, making the task easier for you. If you follow this advice, and if God directs you to do so, then you will be able to endure the pressures, and all these people will go home in peace. Exodus 18:18, 21-23
If your job is overburdening you, then you need to do whatever you can to share the load. It does mean sharing responsibility and sharing credit, but it also means that you won’t be wearing yourself out with nothing left for anyone else—including God. You’ll be amazed at how much lighter a burden is when it is shared. Sharing your work with others will allow you to make the most valuable use of your time for others and for God.
God’s Challenge
Two people can accomplish more than twice as much as one. . . . If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But people who are alone when they fall are in real trouble. . . . Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10, 12
