Stay On Track
Stay on Track
They have abandoned me—the fountain of living water. And they have dug for themselves cracked cisterns that can hold no water at all! Jeremiah 2:13
Keeping your eyes on the mission is critical for two reasons:
- Losing focus slows your momentum and puts the objective that much further away.
- At the same time, you become distracted by something else and actually head off in the wrong direction.
This is double trouble. You’ve not only stopped moving toward the objective, but you’ve veered off course and will need to use resources to get back on track.
The Israelites were no longer focused on their mission of serving God. They had gone beyond ignoring him to actually worshiping other gods. The consequences were dire.
Staying on course isn’t always easy. When shiny new ideas vie for your attention, stop and ask, How will this help us reach our goal? How does this fit into our mission?
If you can’t answer the question or the answer doesn’t feel right, put the idea on the shelf and turn your attention back to the future you are committed to achieving.
