State Your Intentions Up Front

State Your Intentions Up Front

Then food was served. But Abraham’s servant said, “I don’t want to eat until I have told you why I have come.” Genesis 24:33

It is said that baseball legend Babe Ruth would taunt opposing pitchers by pointing to the outfield as if to say, “I’m going to hit a home run over that spot in the wall.”

I’m not sure how many times he actually did that, or how often he was able to deliver on his threat, but I admire his stating his intentions right up front.

Abraham’s servant wanted Laban to know exactly what his objective was before they had dinner. He was there to find a wife for Isaac. Once Laban and the servant were on the same page, the negotiations could begin.

You won’t lose any advantage by stating your objectives right up front. Laying your cards on the table at the onset will give both sides a clear picture of the objective you are trying to achieve, which makes the process much easier.
