Shine Some Light

Your eye is a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is good, your whole body is filled with light. Luke 11:34

When you drive fast on a busy highway, your eyes constantly gather data that helps you make critical decisions about how to reach your destination safely. Taking your eyes off the road for even a few seconds can be disastrous. You can’t rely on the view you had ten seconds ago because everything around you has changed.

Jesus uses the eye as a metaphor for any source of illumination that shines truth into darkness. He warns against trusting a bad eye that fills a room with darkness.

One responsibility of a leader is to make sure the organization has an adequate source of light. As in the driving example, it’s critical that decisions be based on current, truthful information. Decisions made in the dark usually result in fatal errors.

Think about the decisions you will make in the next twenty-four hours. Are you confident that your eyes have been gathering truthful illumination? Does your organization have a steady stream of good light?
