Keep Your Eyes On The Lord

Keep Your Eyes on the Lord

Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all. 1 Timothy 4:12

It’s funny how perspectives change as we age.

When I was younger, I thought this verse meant that older people should give me a chance and shouldn’t hold my youth against me.

Now that I’m sitting on the other side of the desk, I’m sure that Paul is telling younger members of the team to prove themselves by acting maturely.

I think both perspectives are correct.

Those of us with more experience should certainly not think less of our younger colleagues. They often supply fresh ideas and passion.

If you’re just starting out, Paul encourages you to be an example for the rest of us. Don’t expect us to hand over the keys without first showing us you can drive, but don’t back off from sharing your excitement or bringing your stamina to the table.

We’re never too young to lead and never too old to follow. Lead with your eyes on the Lord, regardless of your age.
