Establish Common Bonds

Your bodies will bear the mark of my everlasting covenant. Genesis 17:13

God recruited Abraham to lead a new nation and devised a common identifying mark for all the men.

There’s great value in establishing common bonds among your team members. Doing so provides a dual benefit: Your team will be identified to outsiders as sharing a common objective, and individual team members will feel a kinship with one another.

There should be something about your organization that says, “We’re in this together.” It should be more than a common uniform or dress code, although there’s nothing wrong with that for certain public events.

You’re not looking for clones. The unifying mark might be a certain attitude about the future, a unique way of addressing success, or a commitment to innovation. You might ask your customers what common traits they see in your people. Use their comments to talk to the staff about their common mark of unity.
