Entertain New Ideas

As the Amorites retreated down the road from Beth-horon, the LORD destroyed them with a terrible hailstorm from heaven. . . . The hail killed more of the enemy than the Israelites [had] killed with the sword. Joshua 10:11

Peter Drucker, the father of modern business consulting, claimed that his greatest strength as a business strategist was the ability to “be ignorant and ask a few questions.”

Ignorance allows you to consider solutions that are often rejected by experienced folks who have already decided that something won’t work.

Effective problem solving requires you to replace previous solutions with new ideas.

If God had convened a meeting of Joshua’s top soldiers and asked them for suggestions on how to defeat the Amorites, I seriously doubt that any of them would have suggested a hailstorm. They were professional military men who would have sought solutions within their scope of expertise.

If you’re looking for unique solutions to vexing issues, look for someone who is ignorant— someone who won’t say, “We’ve always done it this way.”
