Defend Against Rumors

As I write this, residents and officials just outside of Yosemite National Park are dealing with a massive rock slide that has closed a main road into this popular vacation spot. The situation is serious. It could be over a year before the road reopens.

When the slide first occurred, everyone had their own spin on what was being done, and most of the stories were grossly exaggerated. Then a government employee began e-mailing a daily update to residents and community leaders.

Within days, the rumor mill had subsided, and people began talking about solutions.

Paul was away from the church at Colossae. He knew that human nature would fabricate rumors to fill gaps in the available information, so he made certain that they had what they needed to fight the rumor mill.

Do your people have enough information, or have you allowed the rumor mill to fabricate phony facts?

Perhaps you need to plan an information offensive and put rumors to rest before they get started.
