Appreciate The Hierarchy
Appreciate the Hierarchy
God said to Noah, “Yes, this rainbow is the sign of the covenant I am confirming with all the creatures on earth.” Genesis 9:17
I don’t buy into the popular mantra that titles are unimportant in the workplace. The most common reason given for doing away with job titles is that they are just artificial badges of honor and that real leaders shouldn’t need a title to show others who is in charge.
Go into any organization that claims to have eliminated titles and ask for the person in charge. There isn’t a single person who doesn’t know who the boss is or who reports to whom. There’s a hierarchy, and everyone knows how it works.
Giving someone a title won’t make them a better supervisor, but it will add a stratum of order that we humans seem to need. The title affirms that the organization believes this person can do the job they have been assigned.
God could simply have told Noah about his covenant to never again flood the earth, but he chose to mark the occasion with a sign.
