What Say You? - Eliezer

The man bowed low and worshiped the LORD. “Praise the LORD, the God of my master, Abraham,” he said. “The LORD has shown unfailing love and faithfulness to my master, for he has led me straight to my master’s relatives.”

Genesis 24:26-27

Moments after the toddler received some much-needed liquid refreshment at his grandmother’s hand, the boy’s mother spoke up.

“Now, what do you say?” she asked.

“Ank oo!” came the toddler’s response.

Teaching children basic manners is an essential part of parenthood. That’s especially true for Christian parents who want their children to learn the importance of verbally thanking those who help them—including God.

Gratitude should flow naturally from the Creator-creature relationship. God wants you to make gratitude a big part of your relationship with him. He wants you to bring your needs and desires to him in prayer so he might meet them, and then he wants you to thank him for answering your prayers. You also have many good things that you didn’t even think to ask for.

Abraham’s servant Eliezer went to God and asked very specifically and directly for a sign that would show him which woman he was to take back to Abraham to become Isaac’s wife.

When God gave Eliezer exactly what he had asked for, he remembered to turn to him immediately to praise and thank him for his goodness and faithfulness.

God gives you the wonderful privilege of serving him in many capacities and also gives you everything it takes to do the job successfully.

Now . . . what do you say?

When God gives you a mission to undertake or a goal to accomplish, remember to pray for specific blessings regarding those things. When he answers that prayer—and he always will, although maybe not in the way that you expect—go back and thank him for everything he has done.
