What Pleases God - Moses
What Pleases God - Moses
Moses again pleaded, “Lord, please! Send anyone else.” Then the LORD became angry with Moses.
Exodus 4:13-14
Hall of Famer Connie Mack, who set the all-time record for wins by a Major League manager, once said, “I’ve seen boys on my baseball team go into a slump and never come out of it, and I’ve seen others snap right out and come back better than ever. I guess more players lick themselves than are ever licked by an opposing team.”
As in sports, ordinary life presents you with opportunities to accomplish great things. What you succeed in doing often depends on your attitude.
When God first appeared to Moses in the desert and informed him that he would lead the people of Israel out of Egyptian captivity, Moses’ attitude was negative and self-defeating. Most believers probably think that a miracle such as the one Moses saw that day—God’s voice booming out of a bush that was burning but not burning up—would have them ready to move mountains. They think that they would just be asking, “When do we get started?”
Moses’ response was quite different. Instead of focusing on the awesome task that lay before him, Moses narrowed his focus to his own human frailty. Humility is a good thing in God’s eyes, but when humility turns into an “I can’t” attitude, it can keep you from enjoying the good things that God has for you. If God says that you can do something, you can do it.
Moses found himself in desperate need of an attitude adjustment and a radical change of focus. Once he negotiated those things, he set off on an adventure in which he could accomplish everything God had arranged for him to do.
God loves it when you turn your focus toward him and away from your own fears, frailties, and doubts. True humility sees itself in relation to God’s greatness. It doesn’t say, “That’s too big for me,” but rather, “If God wants me to do it, then with his help, I can certainly do it.” Is there anything too hard for you to accomplish today?
