The Reward - The Faithful Servant

A faithful, sensible servant is one to whom the master can give the responsibility of managing his other household servants and feeding them. If the master returns and finds that the servant has done a good job, there will be a reward.

Matthew 24:45-46

Two kinds of people normally work in every office setting. There are those whom the boss must watch like a hawk because their attitude about work reflects the old saying “When the cat’s away, the mouse will play.” They may get their jobs done, but their hearts aren’t in it. Come time for their annual reviews, they’re lucky if they get even the smallest raise.

Then there are those who demonstrate faithfulness and enthusiasm in their work. These are the people the boss doesn’t need to watch because they make the best use of their time. They do their jobs well because they approach their work with enthusiasm.

Jesus once told a story about the second kind of employee. He was a faithful servant whom the master knew he could count on to manage the other servants. The master would reward this man for his faithful, conscientious service.

This particular servant had earned his master’s trust because he had already demonstrated his faithfulness in the big issues his job presented as well as in the smaller details. His master knew that he could leave this servant with important responsibilities. He would treat his fellow servants kindly and wouldn’t waste the master’s time by partying and drinking (see Matthew 24:45-49).

Are you faithful in serving God, your family, and your employer? If so, you’re the kind of servant who earns God’s confidence. He will reward you for your faithfulness and give you more privileges and responsibilities in the Master’s house.

God gives you many opportunities to serve him, your family, and your employer. God richly rewards you when you approach all opportunities with an attitude of faithfulness.
