Ready To Follow - Jesus At Cana

Ready to Follow - Jesus At Cana

This miraculous sign at Cana in Galilee was the first time Jesus revealed his glory. And his disciples believed in him.

John 2:11

When the well-known evolutionist Thomas Henry Huxley spent a weekend with a group of men at a house party, he awoke Sunday morning to find most of them preparing to go to church.

Wanting to hear some evidence for Christianity, Huxley approached one man well-known for his faith and asked him to stay with him and explain why he was a Christian.

This Christian man agreed to sit and talk to Huxley, and when he finished, a tearful Huxley said, “I would give my right hand if only I could believe that.”

Though Christianity is a matter of faith, the Bible cites several examples of people who became convinced only after seeing God move in a miraculous way. One day at a wedding party in a small town called Cana, Jesus performed his very first miracle when he changed water into wine.

By that time, Jesus probably had called six of his twelve apostles: Andrew, Simon Peter, Philip, Nathanael, and the brothers James and John. These men followed Jesus because they believed that he was their long-awaited Messiah.

That day, they learned that their Messiah was much more than they had ever expected.

In those days, running out of wine at a wedding was a major social faux pas. That is why Mary, Jesus’ mother, asked him to fix the problem. Jesus commanded the servants at the party to fill six stone pots with water. After they obeyed, the wine began to flow once again, and in fact, it was the best they had ever tasted.

The perplexed headwaiter didn’t know where the wine had come from and wondered why they had saved the best for last. The servants knew, however, and so did Jesus’ disciples. They would never see Jesus in the same way again.

Jesus met his mother’s request. More importantly, he glorified his Father in heaven and established in his disciples’ minds just Who had called them to follow.

When you identify yourself as a follower of Jesus, people will watch you closely to see what kind of difference your faith makes. Your life may be just what it takes to convince someone to believe and follow Jesus.
