Put Off Procrastination - Felix

Put Off Procrastination - Felix

A few days later Felix came back with his wife, Drusilla, who was Jewish. Sending for Paul, they listened as he told them about faith in Christ Jesus. As he reasoned with them about righteousness and self-control and the coming day of judgment, Felix became frightened. “Go away for now,” he replied. “When it is more convenient, I’ll call for you again.”

Acts 24:24-25

Do you know anyone who appreciates the mantra “Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow”? Do you have unfinished projects at your home? Are there stacks of paper on your desk that you haven’t gotten around to reading? Any phone calls that you haven’t managed to return?

Procrastination is a great enemy of accomplishment. Procrastination keeps you from success at home and at work, and it prevents you from being all that God wants you to be.

Felix was a procrastinator. He was the Roman governor of Judea during the time of the apostle Paul, and he had an opportunity to respond to the message of salvation through Jesus. Paul told him and his Jewish wife, Drusilla, of their need for faith in Christ so that they could one day inherit the Kingdom of Heaven.

As Felix listened intently to Paul’s message, it frightened him so badly that he put off hearing more. Felix allowed his fears to drive him away from Christ instead of toward him. “Go away for now,” Felix told Paul. “When it is more convenient, I’ll call for you again.”

Tragically, that “more convenient” time never came. Though the governor talked to Paul again on several occasions, he never again brought up the subject of God or salvation. Instead, he focused on seeking bribes and thus missed out on God’s greatest gift of an eternity with him in heaven.

Ask yourself what blessings you might be missing because you choose to put off your responsibilities and do them at a “more convenient” time. Every day that you live is a gift from God. Use that gift to do the things God has directed you to do. Never put off until tomorrow what you can do today!
