Overt Love - Solomon

He escorts me to the banquet hall; it’s obvious how much he loves me.

If you truly, deeply, madly love someone, then your feelings are bound to show, one way or another. That’s part of being made in God’s image. We love the way God loves, and God loves in an obvious way, demonstrated openly and outwardly.

Today’s Scripture is a staple for those who wish to read about a man’s love for his woman in the Bible. It describes the depth and breadth, as well as the specific demonstrations, of a husband’s passion for his lady. It also pictures God’s love for you.

Wait a minute! you may be thinking. I thought the Song of Solomon was about a man’s love for his wife, not about God’s love for us.

Actually, it’s both. The one pictures the other.

Solomon’s beloved Shulamite knew how much he loved her. In his words and deeds, Solomon demonstrated his love in ways that everyone could see. When he invited her into the banquet hall where his family, friends, and servants all dined with him, he openly expressed his undying love.

Solomon certainly reaped the rewards of his openness with the Shulamite!

Though the Song of Solomon is a poem about the passionate love between Solomon and his beloved, and a real-life account of a man who knew how to cultivate a mutually satisfying and uplifting relationship with the woman he loved, it’s also a model of how you can love others whom God has placed in your life. Love them passionately and openly so that they never have to question how much you love them.

Let your wife, children, family, and friends know how much you love them every day, and in as many ways as you can think of.

After all, that’s what God has done for you!

God made it obvious how much he loves you by sending his Son to die for you, among other things. You can be obvious about how much you love those he has placed in your life. Don’t make them guess or ask. Show them.
