Jesus Needed The Holy Spirit - Jesus

Jesus returned to Galilee, filled with the Holy Spirit’s power. Reports about him spread quickly through the whole region. He taught regularly in their synagogues and was praised by everyone.

Luke 4:14-15

Prior to Dwight L. Moody’s historic evangelistic campaign in Great Britain, a local pastor protested, “Why do we need this Mr. Moody? He’s uneducated, inexperienced. . . . Who does he think he is, anyway? Does he think he has a monopoly on the Holy Spirit?”

Another pastor who knew Moody well responded, “No, but the Holy Spirit has a monopoly on Mr. Moody.”

Any man who has accomplished something for the Lord owes his success to the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. Jesus promised to send the Spirit to us after he returned to his Father in heaven (see John 16:13), and he left us an example of how to depend on the Spirit for power, guidance, and encouragement.

Jesus lived his whole life on earth relying on the Spirit’s power. Every wise word he spoke and every miraculous deed he performed grew out of the Spirit’s prompting. The Bible teaches that Jesus didn’t even begin his public ministry until “the Holy Spirit, in bodily form, descended on him like a dove” at his baptism (Luke 3:22). Following that step, Jesus rose from the waters of the Jordan River and shook his world to its foundations.

By submitting to the empowering of the Holy Spirit, Jesus received his heavenly Father’s approval to do his work on earth and the heavenly resources he would need to obediently and humbly complete his mission.

So here’s the question of the day: If Jesus, as the perfect Son of God and Son of Man, needed the empowerment of God’s Spirit, how much more do you need his power today?

Do you want to make a godly impact in every corner of your world for Jesus Christ? If so, recognize that you will need more than knowledge of God’s Word, desire, or natural ability. You need to walk every day in the power of the Holy Spirit, the same power that Jesus counted on to complete his earthly ministry.
