He Got It - King David
He Got It - King David
His unfailing love toward those who fear him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth. He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west.
Psalm 103:11-12
Men who follow Jesus Christ wholeheartedly after being saved from a life of sin often have a passion for God’s love and forgiveness that is far more intense than a man who grew up in the faith and never departed.
King David expressed such passion in Psalm 103.
David had plenty in his life for which he needed forgiveness. At times, he allowed his emotions to overwhelm him, and on several occasions he found himself in trouble because of it. Like us, he was a sinner who needed God’s grace and forgiveness.
And he knew it.
David knew when he failed God, and he knew that he deserved to pay the price for his wrongdoing. He also understood that God’s love would never fail him. He recognized that God forgave so completely that it was as if he had never committed a sin.
David didn’t choose his words at random when he wrote that his sins were separated from him “as far . . . as the east is from the west.”
If a pilot were to take off in his airplane and begin to circle the globe, he would eventually find himself heading south if he first headed north. If that same pilot were to circle the globe going east, he would never stop going east for as long as he stayed in the air.
David knew—as should you—that God’s love and forgiveness are absolute, even for the worst of sins and the worst of sinners.
Like David, you can know that God’s love will never fail you even when you blow it. When you confess your sins, he completely and eternally separates them from you and you from them.
