Created For A Purpose - Adam

God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

Genesis 1:27

In February 1980, the U.S. Olympic hockey team earned the gold medal at Lake Placid, New York, with a 4-2 win over Finland. Not many people remember that game, however. A semifinal game three days earlier still holds the limelight.

In one of the greatest upsets in sports history, the young Americans defeated a veteran Soviet team that most everyone saw as unbeatable. Before his team’s game against the Soviet Union, U.S. coach Herb Brooks told his players, “You are born to be a player. You are meant to be here at this time. This is your moment.”

Nothing defines and motivates a man like a sense of purpose and a reason for being.

Adam never questioned his purpose in life. He had an innate sense that the Lord had put him on earth for one reason: to enjoy fellowship with God. Adam belonged to God, and God belonged to Adam.

Adam reveled in the wonders of God’s creation. He tended the Garden of Eden, named all the animals that lived there, and began to care for the earth around him.

Adam also reveled in God’s presence.

God created Adam “in his own image” so that he could occupy a place of special honor and privilege. Out of all the creatures God had created, Adam alone could intentionally respond to God in obedience and love and relate to him as his heavenly Father.

Sadly, Adam’s sin threw all creation into chaos and spoiled that perfect relationship between the Creator and his creatures. The “Second Adam,” Jesus Christ, came to earth to give us the opportunity to enjoy the kind of fellowship Adam had originally enjoyed with God (see 1 Corinthians 15:45-49).

Do you ever wonder why God created you and put you where you are? God created you with a special purpose in mind: to enjoy a relationship with him in which you choose to love and obey him and enjoy his presence daily.
