Always Caring - Jesus
Always Caring - Jesus
When Jesus saw his mother standing there beside the disciple he loved, he said to her, “Dear woman, here is your son.” And he said to this disciple, “Here is your mother.” And from then on this disciple took her into his home.
John 19:26-27
One crisis at a time!
All of us feel that way when we’re hurting or stressed. With everything going on in your life, you can easily lose sight of some important details, including the needs of those closest to you, and focus only on the crisis at hand.
Jesus somehow continued to meet the needs of others even as he was taking his last breath. How did he do it?
Imagine the chaotic scene of Jesus’ crucifixion. Most of his disciples had deserted him, leaving him, his immediate family, a few women, and the apostle John to face his painful and humiliating death. As Jesus took on the sins of the whole world, pain ripped through every particle of his bleeding flesh. Yet even in the midst of his pain, Jesus remained as obedient to God and as caring toward others as ever.
Jesus’ mother, Mary, suffered inconceivable pain and grief as she saw the cruelty her son endured. In his perfect obedience, love, and compassion, a suffering Jesus tended to her needs, giving John the task of taking her into his own home and caring for her.
Imagine the heart of compassion and love a man would need to so tenderly care for another’s needs under such agonizing circumstances. Under the weight of such suffering, what man wouldn’t forget about everyone around him and just focus on his own pain?
Jesus wasn’t just any man. He was the most compassionate man who ever lived, and he spent his last few moments on earth tending to the needs of others.
What kind of stress or pain most often forces you to turn inward? When does it become most difficult for you to show compassion to others? In your times of difficulty and suffering, remember that Jesus has compassion for you, and he genuinely cares about everything that happens to you.
