A Walk With God - Enoch

After the birth of Methuselah, Enoch lived in close fellowship with God for another 300 years, and he had other sons and daughters. Enoch lived 365 years, walking in close fellowship with God. Then one day he disappeared, because God took him.

Genesis 5:22-24

A senior citizen who had walked with God for decades made a mistake when taking his medications and quickly wound up in the hospital. When it became clear that the error might cost him his life, his whole family gathered to say good-bye.

Many tears mixed with much joy as sons, daughters, grandchildren, and the man’s faithful wife remembered his legacy and how he was the only member of his family of origin to make the choice to follow Christ.

After less than a week in the hospital, he fell into a light coma and said nothing for a couple of days. With his eldest son in the room, he suddenly opened his eyes, smiled, and exclaimed, “Wow!” Then he fell back into a coma and died a short while later.

Had this man enjoyed a vision of heaven? His son thinks so, and the thought gives him deep comfort. He says that it was as if God and his father had walked together for so many years that on that day the Lord said, “Joe, we’re a lot closer to my house than yours. Why don’t you just come home with me?”

Enoch walked with God and simply disappeared into heaven one day. The writer of Hebrews pointed out a benefit of walking with God when he wrote, “Before [Enoch] was taken up, he was known as a person who pleased God” (Hebrews 11:5).

Enoch pleased God because he walked with him daily. He relied on him, enjoyed his companionship, obeyed his commands, and put him at the center of everything he said and did.

Would you like to be known as a man who pleases God? If so, walk with him as Enoch did.

When you walk with God, you please God. When your life pleases him, you know the blessed assurance of your place in his eternal Kingdom.
