The God Who Wins

Read: Psalm 72

All kings will bow before him, and all nations will serve him. Psalm 72:11

IN WORD

In this psalm, the desire for all nations to honor the king is in the form of a blessing. In Psalm 2, it’s in the form of a prophetic prayer request (2:8). But in Philippians, it’s a certain fact (2:9-11); and in Revelation, it’s a completed picture (5:13). What begins with human implications for a human king takes on divine overtones for the King of kings. The Son will receive the worship of the nations because He is the guaranteed victor over humanity’s rebellion.

His victory is no brutal beat-down. Unlike the rulers of our age who win their battles with decisive force, our King has quashed earth’s rebellion with kindness and love. His victory over all the forces of evil in both visible and invisible realms is complete and final. When history ends, He will be the undisputed champion. And the whole earth will be filled with His glory.

That’s important to know when you feel defeated. No matter how overwhelmed you feel by evil, opposition, oppression, discouragement, or futility, you are a member of the winning team as a child of the King. You may wonder why His victory isn’t manifesting in your life at the moment. There are plenty of reasons for that, not the least of which is that He is teaching you to overcome in His strength. But regardless of your questions, victory is certain.

IN DEED

If you’re struggling today, remind yourself that you’re on God’s winning team. You serve a victorious God who gives you access to His weapons for victory. Learning to wield them may be a painful process that requires patient endurance and faith, but those enduring, trusting investments of your heart will not go unrewarded. Faith and patience always lead to some kind of blessing, and overcomers in the Kingdom grow stronger in each battle. The end result isn’t just a victory for the King; it’s a victory with the King. Through His grace and generosity, His throne, His reign, and His spoils of war are yours.

God is never defeated. Though He may be opposed, attacked, and resisted, the ultimate outcome can never be in doubt.
