Never Forsaken

Read: Psalm 9:1-10

Those who know your name trust in you, for you, O LORD, do not abandon those who search for you. Psalm 9:10

IN WORD

God has never forsaken those who seek Him. He is trustworthy. Faithful. Relentlessly good. We can invest our hearts in Him. Right?

That’s the big question hanging over our hearts throughout our lives. We know the right answer if we’ve accepted His Word as truth. And oh, how we want it to be true. But virtually every human being has gone through experiences of hardship and pain—some of them while knowing God could have intervened if He wanted to. Somewhere deep inside us are lingering questions that were first introduced in a garden long ago: Is this King good? Is He good to me personally? Will He let me down, or can I trust Him with whatever is dear to my heart? Not just to do what’s best for Him and His purposes, but also what’s best for me? Even when I’ve failed?

This is perhaps the biggest internal battle we will ever fight. Much in our lives will cast Him in a negative light, and we have some unholy help putting on the wrong lenses for viewing these things. Will we choose to trust God’s goodness regardless of what we see? He strongly supports those who do, though that support may be hard to see in the moment. Some people have already bought into the bitter lie that they have been forsaken. Eventually, however, those who hold on to trust will shine brightly in a world of shadows.

IN DEED

Much of life is a discovery process about truth and reality. But there are a few truths we can anchor ourselves in. This is one of them. God is good. Relentlessly good. No matter what we see. No matter how it feels in a moment of crisis. No matter what we think He could have/should have done to help us out of the crisis or deliver us from pain. Regardless of the evidence of experience—which, by the way, we see from an extremely limited perspective—He has never forsaken those who seek Him. Hold on to that. Forever.
