God Of Justice

God of Justice

Read: Psalm 9:1-10

The LORD reigns forever, executing judgment from his throne. Psalm 9:7

IN WORD

If you’re like most people, something in you hates injustice. It bothers you when arrogant people get their way and continue to think they are better than everyone else. It rubs you the wrong way when honest, hardworking people are trampled on because of someone else’s selfish agenda. And it angers you when children are abused, hearts are wounded, and the powerful casually disregard the needs of the weak. You were wired with a sense of right and wrong.

Why is this embedded in your nature? Because you were made in God’s image, He feels the same way you do about injustice, only more passionately. He is drawn to the humble and resists the proud. Selfish agendas violate His nature. It angers Him when people are abused, disregarded, and overcome by evil. He hates corruption and cruelty.

The skeptic will ask, “Then why doesn’t He do something about it?” But the skeptic doesn’t see the whole picture. When all the layers of reality are exposed, we will see how God allowed the world to continue in its fallen condition—only for a time—in order to separate those who trust Him from those who don’t, to try the hearts of those who love Him, to give rebellious hearts every chance to change and pursue the right course. God may have ample reasons beyond our understanding to allow what He has allowed, but we know He will not allow it forever. He has done something about it. In the big picture, evil is on a leash. And it is a very temporary condition.

God establishes justice. He makes decisions. He sorts out what’s right. The declaration that He is on His throne is not a threat of condemnation; it’s a promise of restoration. He will make everything right.

IN DEED

We can take comfort in knowing that God will put the world back in order, but will He do that in our individual lives? Clearly the promise encompasses the personal interests of those who call Him King and trust His purposes. He is a repairer by nature, and His love for you is intense. Rest in that fact. He reigns over every detail of your life.
