Hearing His Voice #343

[Jesus said,] “The Holy Spirit . . . will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.”

John 14:26

FROM THE HEART OF GOD

“I created your brain. I know its wonderful abilities as well as its limitations. When I left My Word with you, I never intended to abandon it entirely to the mental capacities of theologians and preachers and your own thinking. I want you to understand what I’ve said, of course, but I never indicated that understanding My Word was simply a matter of applying your logic and sorting out your best ‘system’ or summary of truth. Human thinking is finite and flawed. I left My written Word in the hands of My Spirit—your Counselor and Advocate and Friend. You only hear My words in it when you read it and listen to it with Him.

“My followers were guided by My Spirit when they wrote down our conversations. The Law, the Prophets, the histories, the wisdom, the Gospels, the letters—everything you accept as My Word—was breathed by the thoughts of the Spirit. He brought to the writers’ minds everything I had said to them and everything I wanted them to teach. But the Spirit didn’t leave when these writers died. He remains with you even today. He will bring to mind everything I want you to know and teach you things you have never learned from a human being. If you listen, He will open up insights and remind you of truths that will guide you through life.

“Look to the Spirit as your Teacher. This is a learning process, as it doesn’t come naturally. Your habit is to look to your own mind and to the minds of your experts and teachers. Use your mind, yes; but don’t depend on it. Depend on the Spirit, who fills you with knowledge of My will and of the realities of My Kingdom. Never interpret My Word without first asking the Holy Spirit what it means. Invite Him to provide the lenses through which you see. He will guide you into all truth.”

Yes, Holy Spirit, give me eyes to see. No Scripture is a matter of my own opinion; Yours is the only one that counts. Enlighten me to see heavenly realities behind these very visible words.
