Hearing His Voice #34

As [Saul] was approaching Damascus on this mission, a light from heaven suddenly shone down around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice.

Acts 9:3-4

The young man had been a devout, lifelong Muslim, but he was beginning to search for something more. In fact, he had prayed that if there were more—if he had been missing the truth all these years—God would lead him into the light. Not many days later, a bright light in the shape of a man came to him in his room. He couldn’t move, but he didn’t want to. The light spoke to him, identified Himself as Jesus, and called this man into the truth. It changed his life forever.

This is not an unusual occurrence in the Middle East, or even in other parts of the world. Jesus doesn’t seem to be bothered that many Christians in the West question the authenticity of spiritual experiences; He manifests Himself to people anyway. Sometimes He comes in a dream, sometimes in a vision during prayer, and sometimes in a tangible form in the middle of the day’s normal activities. He doesn’t appear this way to everyone who seeks Him, but He has radically changed many lives, even of those who formerly opposed Him. There is no limit to the ways He will encounter those He has chosen. He finds a way into the hearts of His people.

Saul had a dramatic encounter with Jesus on the road to Damascus. He wrote later that more than five hundred people had seen the resurrected Jesus before the Ascension. Many people throughout history have told of similar experiences, and the fruit of their lives has validated their testimonies. An encounter with Jesus can turn anyone into a radical, passionate believer who will go to any lengths to give Him glory. He is more than willing to step into our experience in powerful, life-altering ways.

Jesus, show Yourself to even more people. Captivate the hearts of seekers everywhere—Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, cult members, and even me. Step into this world whenever and however You choose. Let us see Your glory.
