[The Lord said,] “Who is this that questions my wisdom with such ignorant words?”

Job 38:2

FROM THE HEART OF GOD

“Perhaps I sounded angry at Job, but I wasn’t. As you may recall, I vindicated him in the end and punished his friends. I was pleased with him and said so. But before I could lift him up, I had to remind him of his limited perspective. His deepest questions only scratched the surface. His most painful laments only represented a moment. His complaints against Me took into account only a cursory glimpse of My nature. He saw much less than he thought he saw.

“Go ahead. I invite you to pour out your heart to Me. Tell me all your frustrations. Question My work in your life. I welcome your honesty, even when it hurts. But don’t be surprised when I remind you of the big picture, when I raise your perspective to see beyond your immediate surroundings into the vast depths of My being. And even in your most pointed questions, remember this: Any doubts about My goodness are wrong. Any complaints about how I have treated you are unfounded. Any agreement with the one who slanders My character is evidence that you have been duped. I have repeatedly said in My Word and in My relationship with you that appearances can be deceiving. There is an unseen world behind the veil of your surroundings, and your life makes sense only in the context of the whole. Don’t base any conclusions on the visible. Learn to hear Me and know Me apart from what you see.

“You will see My goodness in your life, and treasure those times. But know that My goodness will also be obscured at times. Understand that you have a limited view, and learn to see beyond it. Don’t question My wisdom with ignorance. Wrestle with Me on matters of truth. Your drive and your passion to know My ways will be rewarded.”

Lord, help me learn to question Your works without criticizing Your wisdom. Anchor me in the knowledge that You are always good, no matter how things appear. Let me hear the truth behind the scenes.
