Hearing His Voice #254

The words of God—both the written Word and every utterance that comes out of His mouth—are alive. That is the testimony of Scripture as well as every life that has been changed by hearing His truth. Though many dismiss the Bible as primitive speculations, or read it simply as ink on a printed page, those who have embraced its message have found it irresistibly powerful and surprisingly active. So it is with God’s messages for any given moment in our current circumstances. They seem to have a life of their own because they come from the mouth of the Living One, the source of all life.

We need life. We are told early in Scripture that we do not live by bread or any other physical sustenance alone, but by every word that comes from God’s mouth. We spend much of our lives earning an income, arranging our living conditions, securing our safety, seeking enjoyable experiences, and planning for retirement, yet the truth is that our greatest source of life and all its pleasures and benefits is the voice of God. When we hear Him, we are sustained, secure, and satisfied. When we don’t, we aren’t.

That’s why seeking His voice—and the fruit of His voice, like being drawn into a relationship with Him and fully experiencing His Kingdom—should be the number one preoccupation of our daily lives. It should be the backdrop for all our other endeavors, the context for even the mundane details of our lives. His words are the source of our existence. We need to hear Him more than we need to eat, sleep, or breathe.

Determine to live as one born of the words of God. Let His voice become your heartbeat. Look at your schedule often and make whatever adjustments you need to make. Put the pursuit of God and His Kingdom at the center of your life.

Lord, I am born from Your Word and will seek Your words every day, now and forever. Your voice fills me with life.
