He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the scholars.

Daniel 2:21

Daniel asked God for revelation, and God answered. Even in his asking, Daniel affirmed God’s nature as the provider of wisdom and knowledge. God didn’t create the world in order to withhold Himself from it. He didn’t give us inquisitive minds simply to abandon us to their fallen instincts. He didn’t establish the beauty, order, and intricate designs of creation in order to hide them from us. And He doesn’t callously watch us struggling with huge issues while hoarding the solutions in His own mind. No, He not only has all wisdom and knowledge; He is predisposed to share it with us.

But usually only if we ask. It’s true that we can gain limited knowledge and insight through experience, discovery, and education, but that doesn’t always help us with immediate needs, and it’s usually tainted with misperceptions anyway. But those who want to access God’s wisdom for current situations are invited to ask in confidence that He is the source of truth and that He wants to impart it. We are not left in the dark to deal with life on our own.

When we pray for revelation—for wisdom, insight, solutions to problems, words of guidance, or visions of truth—we need to pray in faith, without doubting, that God has the answers we need and that He is willing to share them with us if we will open ourselves to Him. James 1:5-6 is emphatic that God is not reluctant to share His wisdom. Any holdup is more likely in our lack of confidence in asking and hearing. But if we ask in faith, God will give us the wisdom and knowledge we need.

Father, it’s Your nature to share what You have. That’s what love does. And You have all wisdom and knowledge. I need guidance and solutions to problems. My eyes and ears are open, and I’m asking in faith. Fill me with Your truth.
