Hearing His Voice #119

[The Lord said,] “I have sworn by my own name; I have spoken the truth, and I will never go back on my word.”

Isaiah 45:23

FROM THE HEART OF GOD

“I have declared again and again how unfailing My words are. I have assured you that I cannot lie. I have sworn not only that all will acknowledge Me, as My words through Isaiah proclaim, but that all My other promises are reliable too. I have given assurances that I’m not fickle, that My words do not shift like the windblown sand, and that I am not a man that I could play fast and loose with the truth. There is nothing more I can say to convince you that I’m faithful and true. Yet many people, sometimes including you, wonder if I will do what I said.

“Does this bother Me? No, not really. I understand your insecurities. I know that when you question whether I’ve spoken truly, you’re really questioning whether you’ve heard Me clearly. I know that when you hear My promises, you hear them through the experience of having others break their promises to you in the past. I could get angry with you for questioning My faithfulness, but the truth is that you’ve never experienced such faithfulness from anyone else. It’s foreign to you, and it takes time to get used to it. I understand.

“Your questions don’t bother Me, but you will eventually need to simply believe. It does no good to ask Me to speak if you’re going to question everything I say as if it might not be true. Yes, you can ask for confirmation to make sure you’ve heard well. But no, you should never question whether what you heard is accurate. It is. It’s unshakable. The things I have spoken over your life will certainly come to pass. I have sworn by My own name. No promise could be more solemn, more sacred . . . and more true.”

Lord, You are the God of all truth. Your words aren’t opinions, suggestions, or speculations. They are fact. Rock-solid certainties. Give me the faith to anchor myself to them and never be moved.
