World’s Strongest Woman
World’s Strongest Woman
Aneta Florczyk is strong.
How strong? you ask. Well, in 2008 she broke her own world record by using her hands to roll five metal frying pans into round burrito-like shapes in one minute. Later that same year, she set another world record by lifting twelve adult men over her head (one at a time) in two minutes. And her feats of strength don’t end there.
Born in a tiny Polish hamlet near Malbork, Aneta started training in powerlifting when she was sixteen. She quickly started winning competitions and joined the Polish national weight-lifting team in 1999. In 2000, she competed in the Junior World Championships and also won second place in the European Championships against much older competitors.
But Aneta truly started to gain fame when she began competing in the World’s Strongest Woman competitions, where athletes perform various acts of strength, including flipping over 450-pound tires, lifting 225-pound logs, and picking up 150-pound barbells in each hand and walking farther than the length of a football field. Aneta won her first World’s Strongest Woman title in 2003 in Zambia. And she went on to claim world championships in 2005, 2006, and 2008. Proving that she had grace in addition to power, Aneta competed in the Polish version of Dancing on Ice in 2008. She ice-skated against other stars to ten different songs and placed third on the popular TV show.
Anyone who can bend frying pans into burritos is obviously strong. Aneta worked out for hours in the gym to build her immense strength. As believers in Jesus Christ, we have special access to the greatest power source in the universe—God himself. In 1 Chronicles 16:11, King David instructs believers to “search for the LORD and for his strength.” David knew that only the Lord can provide supernatural strength to get us through the difficult times in life. So take David’s advice and “continually seek him.”
Daddy-Daughter Time
Go outside and try to lift your car together. Just kidding. Instead you can have a push-up competition. Daughters are allowed to do push-ups from their knees, while dads must perform traditional push-ups with only their toes and hands touching the ground. Who can do the most? Dads, can you do a push-up with your daughter sitting on your back? Don’t hurt yourself.
After competing in your feat of strength, pray to God and thank him for being your source of power.
What’s The Word?
Search for the LORD and for his strength; continually seek him. 1 Chronicles 16:11
