Role of a Lifetime

Have you ever been part of a play? The costumes. The lights. The excitement of performing. It can be a lot of fun. But it’s also a lot of work.

To do well in a play, it’s important to learn the script. A script tells the actors exactly what they have to do to be successful. It contains all the lines for the actors to say. It gives stage directions so actors know where to enter a scene and what emotion to portray. If a script isn’t very good, it doesn’t matter how good the acting is. The play is going to be a flop. Glitzy costumes and awesome sets won’t help either.

As Christians we have the world’s best script—the Bible. Although the Bible doesn’t tell you exactly what to say, it does tell you how to act. God’s Word gives you his commands and explains how to treat other people. God doesn’t demand that you memorize the whole Bible like you memorize a script. (Although that’s not a bad idea, some of the details in the final chapters in the book of Numbers can get sort of dry.) All of the Bible is important, and some verses should be memorized in the scripts of our lives. Micah 6:8 is one of those. It says, “The LORD has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.”

Isn’t that cool? God, as our director, tells us exactly what’s required to live for him.

Daddy-Daughter Time

Memorize Micah 6:8 together. Keep practicing until you perfectly remember this important verse from the Bible. To help you, get a couple of pieces of paper and pens. Divide the paper into three sections. Label the sections:

• Do what is right.
• Love mercy.
• Walk humbly.

Write down ways that you can live out God’s command in each area. When you live out God’s script, you’re sure to be a star.
