Being Watched in Troubled Times

The family bike ride started out fun for Kylee. The trail twisted along a neat path near their home in Canada. Kylee had just received a new bike. It was bigger and faster than her old bike, and she was still adjusting to it. Pretty soon Kylee zoomed well ahead of her family. As she started down a steep hill bordered by a row of trees that guarded a deep ravine, Kylee found herself going too fast. Her mind raced. How do I use these brakes? she thought as her bike picked up speed. God, help me. She was about to run into one of the trees and maybe fly into the ditch when an old man came out of nowhere, grabbed onto her bike, and saved her. As the man helped Kylee off her bike, he said, “God bless you,” smiled, and walked away. By the time Kylee’s family caught up with her, the man was gone.

What does Kylee’s true story do for your faith? We love to hear how God rescues people who call out to him. In the book of Psalms, David often cries out to God for help, for understanding, or for hope. David was brave, noble, and wise. He was also hunted, despised, and sinful. David recognized that people watched him to see how he handled difficulties in his life. He knew that when others witnessed God rescue him, their faith would be helped as well. Like David writes in Psalm 40:3, “Many will see what he has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the LORD.”

Whenever God does something amazing in your life, don’t hide it. Tell your friends, speak about it at your church, or write your story to a magazine. Kylee’s story appeared in Focus on the Family’s Clubhouse magazine, so thousands of kids could be encouraged about what the Lord had done.
