Experiencing God's Presence #86
Experiencing God's Presence #86
The glory of the LORD settled down on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it for six days. On the seventh day the LORD called to Moses from inside the cloud.
Exodus 24:16
Moses ascended high on Mount Sinai. God descended to its peak. And for six days, the two maintained their positions. The cloud of glory hovered, and to the people at the foot of the mountain, it appeared to be a consuming fire. This same God whose fire blazed away on a bush but did not consume it was now, from all appearances, devouring the top of a mountain. And Moses, the man who had spoken with this God, was not running in fear. In fact, for six full days, he stood poised to go even closer.
On the seventh day, God called. And Moses not only entered this terrifying cloud of glory, he stayed in it forty days and nights. He received dramatic, landmark revelation in it as God gave commands and instructions and unveiled His heart for His people. The desires of this God were laid bare: He seeks a relationship with His people and wants their exclusive love. He expects His people to be ethical and pure like He is. He cherishes His people and wants to bless them. These were the matters weighing on the heart of the “consuming fire.”
What do we miss when we are too intimidated to go deeper into God? We miss the unveiling of what’s on His heart. In His Presence, divine desires are revealed. His purposes and missions are set forth. His expectations become clear. The extent of His love is expressed. If we don’t enter the cloud of glory, we don’t experience these priceless treasures. But if we do, eternal blessings open up before us.
Lord, I want to see and hear what’s on Your heart. Share Your desires and dreams with me. Show me what You treasure. Lead me into Your cloud of glory.
