Experiencing God's Presence #334

Nothing is impossible with God.

Luke 1:37

You may have difficulties in your life. Perhaps they have lingered far too long and disguised themselves as permanent. Maybe they have masqueraded as impossibilities rather than the difficulties that they are. Even so, you can remind yourself often that when God is involved, nothing is impossible.

Scripture affirms this again and again—the same truth expressed in various ways. It tells us that nothing is too difficult for Him, that His arm is not too short to save, that all things are possible with Him. No matter how it’s phrased, the point is the same: no problem is beyond His ability to solve, and no task is too great for His power. In fact, He actually prefers to work in “impossible” situations rather than very far-fetched or somewhat unlikely situations. He specializes in solutions that have no explanation other than Him.

It’s easy to understand why, from His perspective. These are the situations in which His attributes are most visibly displayed. When Joseph and Daniel interpreted dreams that were impossible for others to interpret, God’s ability to reveal truth was clearly seen. When the sea parted and the walls of Jericho fell down, His power was obvious. When older women like Sarah and Elizabeth or a virgin like Mary conceived, His creative ability was revealed. The most impossible circumstances set up the clearest displays of His glory. In the words of Jean de La Bruyère, “Out of difficulties grow miracles.” Miracles don’t happen if impossibilities don’t happen first.

Don’t get discouraged by the long, unyielding situations in your life. God has solutions for them. He may not have revealed those solutions yet—He let many people in Scripture endure long periods that required faith and patience—but He is never late with His answers. Wait, believe, and hope. Nothing is impossible with Him.

Lord, I need You to overcome the impossibilities in my life. Fill me with faith and hope and help me to be patient. Show Your glory in my circumstances.
