Experiencing God's Presence #318
Experiencing God's Presence #318
You guide me with your counsel, leading me to a glorious destiny.
Psalm 73:24
Soldiers on the battlefield have to be able to receive communication from headquarters in order to follow the right directions and tactics. A pilot has to receive clear communication from air traffic control in order to position the plane for safe takeoff and landing. A good marriage has to have good lines of communication in order to stay healthy and strong. In virtually every area of life, clear expression is important.
That’s true of our relationship with God, too, but an alarming number of Christians believe we can’t hear God with any certainty. In fact, those who claim to hear from God are viewed suspiciously by those outside the church as well as by many within it. But Scripture is clear that God communicates with His people—both through His Word and in many other ways consistent with it—and that we can receive His counsel. He has a long history of speaking to His people in a way we can understand.
Not only that, God’s counsel leads us to “a glorious destiny.” Those who fear His voice haven’t understood His purposes. Whether He speaks to correct or to encourage, His plan for us is good. Those who trust Him and listen for His voice need not fear condemnation; He has already assured us that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ (Romans 8:1). His voice comes to us for growth, encouragement, and comfort (1 Corinthians 14:3). He is an effective communicator who is very positive about our future. We have everything to gain by listening to Him.
Lord, let me hear You clearly. You promised that I can, and Your voice is vital if I’m to carry out Your will and fulfill the destiny You’ve planned for me. Please speak in a way I can understand, and give me faith to believe what I have heard.
