Experiencing God's Presence #106

He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together.

Colossians 1:17

You would need about ten million hydrogen atoms to make a one-millimeter line out of them. But each atom is made up of many much smaller parts. The diameter of the proton is 100,000 times smaller than the diameter of the atom itself, and each electron rapidly racing around the proton is a thousand times smaller than that. The actual substance of an atom is so small that we can’t imagine it. Yet Jesus, through whom all things were created, is somehow present in every tiny particle. In fact, He holds them all together.

And His involvement goes well beyond material substance. He knows the secrets of every heart (Psalm 44:21), as well as every motive behind them (1 Chronicles 28:9). He is aware of every sparrow that falls to the ground anywhere in the world (Matthew 10:29). He sees into the future, even naming a king more than a hundred years in advance (Cyrus in Isaiah 45:1-3). God knows every tiny speck of His creation—past, present, and future.

And He knows what will happen next in your life too. Every step on your path is laid out before His eyes. Fears and doubts rise up in your heart? He already has an answer for them. Obstacles stand against you? He has already seen them and has a solution for them. You feel pain or loneliness? He has been there all along and will be there with you in the future. You want to win victories in your life as you fulfill the destiny He has called you to? He has prepared the way for every one of them. In the impersonal pieces and processes of this world, as well as the personal aspects of your life, He is there.

Jesus, thank You for holding together every cell in my body and every atom in every cell. You know me better than I know myself. Help me remember the care and zeal with which You watch over my life.
